Burlesque Glamour

Queen of Burlesque
As soon as Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson said ‘I Do’ burlesque hit the main stream. In a modern society where women wear jeans, power suits and strive for equality with men, there was a sudden twist. Flat ballet pumps where swapped for killer 6inch heals, Bridget Jones style underwear was thrown out and fishnet stockings, suspender and lacy lingerie became essential wear, shirts are ditched for corsetry and feather boas and natural makeup was shunned for delicious red lipstick, dramatic fake lashes and sultry eyes. The result is that women’s fashion is celebrating the female form all over again, just like it did in the 1920’s and in the 1940’s. Hollywood glamour is no longer a myth or a thing of the past. With shops such as Harlequin, Jenny Vander’s and Retro in Dublin all stocking beautiful genuine vintage dresses, evening gowns, gloves, and stockings it’s possible to look like you’ve just stepped off the silver screen. The highstreet has also picked up on this trend, with stores from awear to oasis getting in on the action to make these uber glamorous and feminine looks affordable. And if you’re looking for an excuse to dress up and be that femme fatale there are a number of burlesque events and cabaret nights happening all over the country.

I wish we had burlesque performances in my town, but we don’t. I can only watch burlesque on YouTube. Sites like this are where I go for burlesque info – keep it up.
